DESCRIPTION

MÉTÉORES
“Météores” is a musical journey where Giovanni Ceccarelli let’s the listener discover an exceptional world of sounds. From the very first notes starting this record, we remark the leader’s will to keep a perfect musical balance with the other members of this outstanding trio: bassist Ferruccio Spinetti and the very talented drummer/percussionist Francesco Petreni are also Ceccarelli’s lifelong friends, This record presents mainly original compositions, except for two great tributes to a musical tradition which holds a very important place in Giovanni Ceccarelli’s sound universe: Brazil. “Oceano” was written by the great Djavan, and “Chega de Saudade” is a classic belonging to the Jobim/De Moraes songbook. The record’s last piece, a delirious rendition of “Chameleon”, is an eye wink to Herbie Hancock featuring Fausto Mesolella in a Hendrix-like guitar solo.
Giovanni Ceccarelli’s jazz playing is smooth, tender and full of love. His music is at times romantic, at times melancholic, talking to the listener as if one was speaking to his friend (“Canzone per Ferruccio”), his wife (“Vanessa”), or his eternal mistress (“Our Secret”). “New Day in Kibuye” is a homage to the Rwanda massacre’s survivors. The space and the sky are very present in this record, as the title tune “Météores” shows. “I’m Flying” features David Linx as lyrics composer and guest vocalist. “The Ever-Changing Sky” and “Ti Odio”evoke the sky of Paris. The powerful and heady melody in “The Ever-Changing Sky” appears again in “Ti Odio”. The latter features Avion Travel group’s member Fausto Mesolella, who recites with a deep and low-tone voice an intense text written by himself. Young and talented film director Marthe Le More will make a video clip on the piece “Ti Odio”.

“Météores” is definitely an excellent record, which the listener will enjoy from the very first note through the very last.
